CQ Roll Call and the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) launched an event series on March 11th, on the future of homeownership in America.

Homeownership has long been considered the cornerstone of the American dream and our domestic policy. Emphasized by economists and lawmakers as one of the largest generators of wealth creation, homeownership is a critical driver of economic mobility for families and entire communities.

However, there is a fundamental mismatch between the increasing demand for affordable homes and new supply. Already in the throes of a wide-scale housing crisis, barriers to homeownership have been exacerbated by rising construction costs, labor shortages, growing student debt, and a global pandemic.

What can President Biden’s administration do to provide a path forward for the next generation of prospective homebuyers? How can policymakers and the private sector work together to bridge the gap between housing supply and demand? Where can technology be leveraged to increase productivity and overcome historic labor shortages?
