On November 5, 2021, CQ Roll Call, University of California Office of National Laboratories, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory co-hosted a virtual event on the critical role of basic science and the Department of Energy’s National Laboratories in moving discoveries in fundamental science to society. 

EVENT OVERVIEW:
Achieving ambitious climate, energy and equity goals will require transformational technologies rooted in fundamental scientific discovery. Although today there are technologies prime for piloting and demonstration, many technological approaches to climate change mitigation and clean energy solutions don’t currently scale adequately to meet long-term objectives or meet critical equity and equality objectives. Meeting the challenges at hand will require focused, sustained investment in fundamental science, not just in applied technologies development and deployment, to tackle problems now and to continue innovation long into the future.
